A major redevelopment project in Gaston County is receiving statewide recognition. Winn Development’s Lofts at Osage Mill has been awarded a 2025 North Carolina Main Street Award by the N.C. Department of Commerce’s Main Street & Rural Planning Center.
The project was honored in the Design / Best Historic Rehabilitation category and is one of just thirteen projects recognized across North Carolina for outstanding downtown revitalization efforts.
The big picture: Completed in early 2025, the Lofts at Osage Mill transformed a long-vacant textile mill in Bessemer City into a vibrant residential community.
The redevelopment created 139 affordable apartment homes for residents earning up to 60% of the area median income—helping meet a critical housing need while preserving a key piece of Gaston County’s history.
Go deeper: This recognition highlights the continued momentum of redevelopment and investment across Gaston County, demonstrating how historic properties can be reimagined to support both community growth and economic vitality.
