Gaston County and the City of Gastonia are receiving significant federal investments to strengthen public safety and critical infrastructure.
First Up: Gaston County has been awarded $629,000 in federal funding to carry out Rapid DNA technology, allowing law enforcement to process DNA evidence locally rather than waiting on the state’s two-year backlog. As District Attorney Travis Page noted, this advancement will help identify suspects faster, move cases to court more quickly, and provide swifter justice for victims and families.

What’s next: In addition, more than $1.4 million in Community Project Funding has been secured for Gastonia, including $825,000 for upgrades to the Duhart Sewer Pump Station.
The project will modernize pumps, electrical systems, and technology while increasing long-term wastewater capacity.
The station processes 5 million gallons per day and supports 15 additional pump stations, making it vital to the city’s growth and public health.

Together, these strategic federal investments not only improve immediate safety and infrastructure needs, but also reinforce the long-term foundation for economic development, business expansion, and sustainable growth throughout Gaston County.
