Gaston County has approved an incentives grant for Project Nexus, a large-scale economic development initiative that could bring 701 new jobs with average annual wages above $52,000.
By the numbers: While the incentive amount remains undisclosed, the potential investment is significant—county records estimate a $268 million investment, with officials suggesting it could grow to $435 million.
The big picture: The project involves a major manufacturing company considering customizing and outfitting an existing facility in either Gastonia or Kings Mountain. A final location decision is expected in June, with operations projected to begin in early 2027 if Gaston is selected.
“We are a finalist for this project,” said Donny Hicks, Executive Director of the Gaston County EDC. “We have not been selected. There are other communities still in the mix.”
