GASTON COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA – Gaston Business Association will be hosting a Primary Candidate Forum Wednesday, April 27 to learn more about issues affecting business in Gaston County. The three offices that will be highlighted are as follows:

Gaston County Sheriff:

With the previous long-term sheriff, Alan Cloninger, deciding to not run for re-election, this position is open for a new sheriff.  Both the Belmont Police Chief, Chad Hawkins and the Mount Holly Police Chief, Don Roper are running for election and the winner of the Republican primary election in May will run unopposed on Election Day in November.

NC House of Representatives: District 109

Due to the passing of Dana Bumgardner, the position for the representative of District 109 is available. In the interim, former County Commissioner Donnie Loftis has filled this position and has filed to run for a full term. Along with Loftis, three additional candidates have filed to run for the position: Ronnie Worley, Lauren Bumgardner Current, and John Gouch. The winner of this Republican primary election in May will run against Democrat Eric Hughes in November.

Dallas Township County Commissioner

Due to current Dallas Township County Commissioner Tracy Philbeck not seeking re-election, this seat is open. Currently, two Republican candidates have filed for the position, Cathy Cloninger and Steve Hall. The winner will be unopposed in November.
