GBA’s Professional Women’s Association Provides Opportunities and Support for Local Businesswomen
The Professional Women’s Association (PWA) is a GBA program designed to support women in Gaston County as they strive to achieve their professional goals. The overall purpose of the group is to further the impact businesswomen have on the economy and to provide a forum to celebrate, educate, and support women.
The PWA aims to create activities and programs for women to grow in both their professional and personal success. PWA programming offers participation in educational opportunities for women, fosters networking opportunities, urges involvement in community events, and provides support to assist in the economic advancement of Gaston County.
There are 3 main components to the PWA:
- Quarterly Luncheons
- Women 2 Women
- Social Events
Quarterly Luncheons bring women together on a regular basis to have lunch and hear from a speaker about a topic of interest. The most recent luncheon featured former news anchor and author, Page Fehling, who shared her unique story about her professional success and discussed how to embrace change in a constantly changing world. Save the date for the next PWA luncheon scheduled for June 9. This event will be held at the Gastonia Conference Center.
Women 2 Women (W2W) is a small roundtable discussion hosted at the Gaston Business Association. The purpose of W2W is to learn from the experience of other women and build relationships. The small setting (usually 10-15 attendees) allows for women to make meaningful connections and learn from each other. The speakers are professional women leaders in the county or beyond, who are eager to share their experience with others. Please join us for the next W2W on April 8th and learn about community leader Barbara Voorhees experience as the former director of The Carrie E. and Lena V. Glenn Foundation.
Social Events are a vital part of the PWA. In these periodical after hours events, women can meet up in a casual setting to enjoy the company of other professional women while doing an activity(s) away from obligations.
